As part of Summer Streets Festival, 2020 I was commissioned to collaborate with the phenomenal music group AUKESTRA to write an original song called

‘Together: Apart’: an anthem about the importance of connection and what has been keeping people and communities together despite the recent lockdown.

The song was created using technology to communicate and these contributions were then compiled to create a special music video by Jason Thompson,

released on the final day of the festival, Friday 24th of July 2020.

I recently got a lovely commission to create some songwriting video resources for 11-18 year old girls doing Arts Award via Durham University, as part of The Girls Network.

The workshops are now featured as part of Durham Summer In The City digital festival, alongside two other great workshops by theatre maker and poet Kirsten Luckins and artist Isabella Carerras.

I’m delighted to be commissioned to compose a new song for The Sage Gateshead’s Big Sing 2020, a much-loved annual event, supported by The Kavli Trust and run in association with Sing Up.

This year’s Big Sing is celebrating our environment and bringing schools together to sing for our beautiful planet. The Big Sing offers schools a great opportunity to learn new music and expand pupils’ musical horizons in a fun and engaging way, culminating in an uplifting summer term performance in Sage One at Sage Gateshead.

The piece I wrote is called ‘Move over’ and it’s a protest song for children, aiming to help them feel connected to other young people around the globe, work together to bring about change and together, show up for the earth. Inspired by the actions of young global activists, this is a song of youthful idealism, because we all need a bit of that sometimes.

‘This new generation is the most informed, most educated, most connected generation in human history’

- Kate Robertson, founder of the UK-based not-for-profit organisation, One Young World

I'm delighted to have been commissioned by Darlington Sing Community Choir to compose a new choral piece for a special commemorative concert in November 2018, to mark 100 years since the end of the First World War.

The piece examines how the enduring impact of war can ripple through generations and effect everyday lives and communities even in peace time.

You can hear a brief snippet of the track on this link:

I’m delighted to have co-composed a new songbook with my dad (local composer, Andy Jackson) for a Big Sing event on Saturday 14th of October, as part of the biennial world-wide music festival "Voices for Hospices”.

Organised by Durham Scratch Choir, this event is open to singers of all abilities and ages, so come

along for a sing, have a lot of fun, and support this excellent cause.
